U.S. M1905 Bayonet Scabbard
w/ 1910 Belt Hooks Modification

Note the stepped cover at lower end of scabbard. I am not sure which of the following possibilities is most likely:

1. This is one of the experimental scabbards with an aluminum body under the cover, or
2. An attempt to salvage a cover originally intended for the experimental scabbard, or
3. Simply an arsenal or field depot repair.

Scabbard is marked in three lines - RIA 1907 HEK

The stepped cover at the lower, tip, end is shown in the next two images:

The following two images of the side views of the tip show how the tip portion of the leather cover is inset under, and at each side of the lower end of the main portion of the russet leather cover. The side stitching is through the front and back of the main cover as well as through the inset portion of the tip cover. Because of the way that the metal topmount covers the upper end of the main part of the cover, if the entire cover was not fabricated together, the lower tip portion would have to have been added with the main portion already in place over the scabbard body. Clearly a job for a professional. It's not likely to have been done in someone's garage or even in a movie studio prop shop, because of the highly skilled work needed to make such a neat repair. Whether initially made this way, or repaired, a serviceable scabbard was the result.
